That means it's a high time to introduce you to the 2018 grid, the strongest and most successful ever. Below you will find everything you need to know about this years' line-up. If you're a statistics geek, you will like it.
The 2018 MotoGP grid is made up of 24 bikes across 6 different manufacturers - Honda, Yamaha, Ducati, Suzuki, Aprilia and KTM.
The grid size increased of 1 due to an extra bike
for the LCR squad. After two years of loneliness, Cal Crutchlow finally lived to have a teammate.
10 nationalities have their representations in MotoGP this year and that's the increase of 3 compared to the last season.
Spain remains the most numerous contry having 9 riders, while Italy is second with 5. Only 3 riders come from United Kingdom. After departure of Loris Baz, there is only 1 representative of France - Johann Zarco. Czech Republic, Belgium, Japan, Australia, Switzerland and Malaysia - each of them also has only 1 rider in the premier class.
5 new riders - Franco Morbidelli, Takaaki Nakagami, Thomas Luthi, Hafiz Syahrin and Xavier Simeon - arrive to MotoGP this season and this is the largest group of rookies since 2015.
39 years old is the oldest rider on the grid - Valentino Rossi. The Italian also has the most wins (89 in MotoGP, 115 in general). The second one is Jorge Lorenzo with 44 victories in MotoGP, (65 altogehter) and right behind him Marc Marquez - 35 (in total 64).
Despite the arrival of 5 rookies 22 years old Alex Rins from Suzuki remains the youngest rider. When he was born Valentino Rossi was already 16!
2018 grid is already record. There is the largest group of world champions in the whole history of motorcycle championship. 12 riders won at least one title (either in premier, middle or the lowest class). Together they have 32 titles which is an absolute record.
There are 3 MotoGP champions - Rossi, Lorenzo and Marquez. 'Doctor' is the 9 times world chamion (7 premier class titles) Marquez has 4 titles in MotoGP (6 in total), Lorenzo - respectively 3 and 5. Since 2012 we've had only 2 different champions - either Marquez or Lorenzo.
9 riders won at least one MotoGP race in their career. If we add up their victories, we'll get 215. Better yet, if we include middle and the lowest class, the number of winners increases to 21 and number of their victories to 461.
Qatar Grand Prix will be the 200th MotoGP race for Dani Pedrosa. The only rider who competed in more races and is still on the grid is Rossi (305). Ducati duo is also quite experienced. Andrea Dovizioso took part in 178 races and his actual teammate Jorge Lorenzo in 174.
