Open-letter to Hamilton complaining about resurfacing track in Barcelona. "Don't you dare to say it was wasting money!"
At the beginning it's fair to say I failed. Despite my best efforts to write a neutral note about Lewis Hamilton being critical after replacing old asphalt with the new one on Catalan circuit, this post is gonna be an emotional one. A kind of an open-letter to the man himself.
Lewis,
I am well aware that you will never read my message, but this form seems to be the most accurate to express my feelings. You're probably wondering what was wrong with your - seemingly - harmless complainment. Here's trying to make myself understood.
When I saw "Lewis
Hamilton complained about the track resurfacing" headline for the first time, I expected everything - that it was poorely done, track was still bumpy or they didn't manage to do it on time. Nothing suspicious and I even appreciated you mentioned it. Whatever was wrong with the surface, should be pointed out firmly and immediately, so I was glad it was you who did it. The more famous driver, the more likely they will do something to solve the problem. Unfortunately, what you meant was quite the opposite.
You said you didn't like the new, smooth surface and that Circuit de Catalunya lost its character as you prefer more dated surface. "When
you go to a brand new circuit it's got no history (...) I
always relate it to a house. If you go and buy a brand
new house it's got no character, it's new" - you explained and I can't argue with that. Moreover, believe me or not, you can like or dislike whatever you want and you're absolutely free to express your impressions of new asphalt, layout etc. everytime there's somebody who would like to listen to it. There is one thing you're definitely not allowed to do tho - disrespect MotoGP riders and start a childish verbal scuffle bringing back truly tragic memories.
"I don't know why they did it (...) it's a waste of money" - you said about latest changes in Barcelona, before adding that track was better with the bumps. If you really, really don't know why, then at least once stay quiet and better listen carefully. In 2016 WE LOST LUIS SALOM during Catalan Grand Prix. The young, sweet and innocent boy, who had his whole life ahead of him.... We lost him in remarkable, tragic accident that happened because there were bumps on the track. Bumps you miss so much, which are finally being removed. Like it or not, but for f*ck's sake, don't you dare to say it's wasting money! Just don't.
"They have done this on other tracks too, often for MotoGP. It’s a battle. I love MotoGP, but they hate us because we create bumps and we hate them because they want smooth asphalt". And who says it? You. The guy who admited MotoGP is more hardcore than F1 not so long time ago. And you have a problem with them asking for removing the old asphalt, just to decrease the risk of crash a little bit. If only you loved MotoGP like you said, you would support every little activity to make it safer.
And for your information, last year riders threatened not to race in Barcelona unless organisators promise them to change surface. If MotoGP riders demand something so definitely and they don't want to ride, you must know something happens. They raced even 1 day after Salom's tragic death to honour him, so imagine how bad was the asphalt if they considered skipping this race.
“Now it’s easier to drive here” - did you said it to discredit their efforts and their ride? To prove you, F1 drivers, are better because you have no problems with racing on so demanding bumps (but in the same time drive behind safety car in the rain, complain to your team everytime your cars touch on the track or ask for punishments for racing incidents)?

I
want to believe you didn't mean it the way I see it. That you only
tried to start a funny verbal scuffle with MotoGP guys without thinking twice.
If so, then remember words cannot be unspoken and when you speak faster than you can think, they may bring nothing but pain. Just try to see further than the end of your nose in the future. This time the whole issue was not about loss of character of your favourite track Lewis, it was about the loss of life.
That's all from me. Take care of you!
